Matchplay Open debut successful. Improvements underway.
The Reno League's six game matchplay open made its debut Saturday to an unexpectedly large turn out. The tournament featured six games of matchplay competition with a position round in the sixth and final game. Tournament officials expected a modest turn out of roughly 24 bowlers for the first tournament of this kind for the league. With 18 bowlers pre-registered as of 2:00 p.m. Saturday, it appeared the tournament would reach its expected field of at least 24 bowlers. What followed was an unexpected rush of 34 walk in entries increasing the tournament field to 52 bowlers. A flood of entrants began arriving about 40 minutes into check in. Additional lanes had to be requested to fill the demand.

6 Game Matchplay Open returns to Fireside March 6th.
The Reno League's Matchplay Open returns to Fireside Lanes at 1:00 p.m. on March 6th. The inaugural Matchplay Open took place on February 20th and proved to be a huge success. 52 bowlers entered the tournament making it the largest tournament field to date. Tournament staff have been diligently working to improve the flow of the tournament. Initial testing of added tournament software has provided promising results. The software will track bowler lane assignments each game, pre-print recap sheets for each game, and track bonus pins. Score keepers are being assigned the task of recording scores after each game and new automated features will allow tournament staff to keep up to the minute game by game statistics. The tournament is open to all USBC members.
